okay, i to commented on a post in here, so now i feel it's only fair that i join. now that i've done that, i should also metion a strange movie... first one that comes to my head? DUDES. an eighties jon cryer film with flea from the rhcp too. my memory is a bit hazy on this one, but in the beginning a bunch of punks get involved in a murder or something, either the cops think they did it, or someones out for unfair vengance. anyhoo, these punks end up turning into cowboys and fighting back or whatever.
well, if your not comvinced by the above, your just impossible to please. seriously, if you like weird trashy eighties movies, dudes is one for you

I never posted here before, so I thought I'd add one. I saw this Japanese cult film months ago and enjoyed it. Maybe somebody here will check it out and find it interesting also.

for a full review and summary click here. Whatever you do, don't go to imdb. Their summary for it is way off.

I also want to post a few pictures like the previous entry did. XD

check it!Collapse )

Watched Lawn Dogs yesterday on Bravo and I was very impressed, although I'n still unconvinced that the ending was good/appropriate, it still captivated me. Mischa Barton and Sam Rockwell did a wonderful acting job, and I am have always thought Sam Rockwell is one of the most underrated actors, and this only serves to further confirm that.

Any thoughts on the film?

Yesterday i was flicking around and found a really funny movie- "Planet of Storms".
It was made in 1962 in the Soviet Union. Anyway, It's the most bizarre movie where these guys go to Venus with a robot (for some reason i kept expecting it to decide to be depressed, ala Hitch hiker's guide).

The movie made absolutley no sense, they'd ocassionally burst into strange songs for no apparent reason- anyone ever seen it?

The acting was pretty bad too... har they were surrounded by lava and they didn't seem too concerned... when they first landed on the planet they were just like (imagine this in a monotone voice) "oh... we are on venus. Yay. Let us go on a pointless adventure involving nothing particularly exciting, sing about things just for the hell of it and act more robotic than the robot"

Kinda reminded me of Bruce Willis' acting in the sixth sense... you know, how he kinda didn't really react to things... just had the same stupid expression of deep thought on his face no matter what anyone said. not saying it was a bad movie... i was just amused by willis's lack of animation.

that's pretty much it... i like sci-fi's made by the soviet union during the 60's...
HA! 'Xanadu' review.

Okay, so I am slightly infatuated with Olivia, but this does not mean I can't write an objective review.

In short, yes, the movie chomps balls. It is largely crap when viewed as a 'movie'. But when looked at from the point of view of an 'extended video clip', DAMN! It's genius!! Hahaha. Indulge me.

It's painfully eighties, every scene involving at least five neon lights and a handful of synths and leg-warmers. The clothes were...um. Different. The sets were....tacky. The acting....sucked. Olivia constantly chooses odd movies (Re: Her 1983 flop a revival of the chemistry between her and 'Grease' co-star John Travolta "Two of a Kind") And the plot...was, to be honest, non-existent (if it was there, well they did a crap job at executing it).

But the music was exquisite! Dancing kinda rocked. The concept of merging the 40's with the 80's was unusual and could have worked better. But, whoever conceived the idea of slapping rollerskating greek muses with Gene Kelly and Olivia Newton-John must have been taking some seriously wacky drugs. I mean, roller skating through a brick wall into an alternate universe where "Zeus" has trapped his muse "Kira".... B.I.Z.A.R.R.E.

All in all a pretty tacky film backed up by a magnificent soundtrack.

Watch it just for amusement. Not for any sort of intellectual stimulation.

I hear 'Xanadu' is pretty WTF - anyone seen it? want to post a review?

one of my favorite short films of all time is 'vincent' by Tim Burton. If you haven't seen it - damnit you just have to! The atmosphere and detail created by using that style of black and white stop motion animation is absolutely beautiful - if you havent seen it, I suppose you could call 'vincent' similar to 'nightmare before christmas' interms of stylistic approach.
It reminds me of a doctor seuss version of one of those old movies based on edgar allen Poe stories. The narration is decidedly seuss-ish, and the poe reference is within the story itself. Also, burton did this clever little thing with getting the narrator of 'vincent', the story of a boy who wants to be 'just like vincent price' (the old horror movie star, famous for his poe movies), to BE vincent Price. and, incidentally, he has a great voice.

meh, I thought I'd just post about it because its a quirky little film and I have to write about it in an essay soon. good revision ;)

Here is a weird film. Shout Out Love. Now that chick is freakin weird. She makes her ex make a video with her of all the stuff they used to due before he leaves to go live with his new girlfreind. Like reading the news paper and painting. A whole bunch of other things happened but it is just one of those fucked up realtionship films. It was funny to me but most people find it tragic and heart wrenching. So yeah you should go watch it. I give it *** 1/2 stars.

anyone ever seen marat/sade? fucked up movie.

it was kinda cool... idunno im still debating. it was based on something something sade, who in his later years wrote plays for insane asylums to perform, because it was considered "classy" to see these. it was a play about the french revolution and how marat freakin lost it. really odd.
idunno, like, it was performed by the new york shakespeare company, and like, it seems kinda like they were like "oh my how do we act insane were shakespeare actors" and theyre more like zombies.

still, weird.

hmm...you don't have a co moderator yet, but can I post anyway?

I saw this ages ago, but it immediately came to mind when I read the name of this community; "what the fuck am I watching." the movie I am talking about is Richard Linklater's WAKING LIFE.

AMAZING but weird. real weird.

if you haven't seen it, it's essentially an almost plotless exploration of life, the universe and everything - an animated journey through the nature of existence.

the best description I have heard of it to date was when I actually got it from the video rental...

me: *taking video to counter*
guy: whoa, I saw that last week...
me: how was it?
guy: gawd, it was like I was tripped out on LSD or somethin man...

The animation is bloody amazing.
